Award Selection Criteria

Nominations are only done through the official website

All nominees for Remarkable Cameroon Heroes Awards are nominated through the official website of the award; where the nominator is required to justify the nomination with relevant information regarding the impact the nominee has created, so as to enable the award management commence their review. However, GAICAM equally has the powers to shortlist a candidate with a traceable record of impact which for one reason or the other has not been nominated by the general public.

Nominees must have a traceable record of impact

Besides the information provided by the nominator in the nomination form, the GAICAM equally carried out background checks to ensure that each nominee is having a traceable record of impact. This process equally ensures that no one appears on the nomination list without a visible impact. That is to say, each nominee per category is capable of winning the award category.

Commission of Independent Judges are appointed to screen nominees

Before publishing the first list of shortlisted candidates, the GAICAM first of all appoints members of the award Commission of Independent Judges from diverse professional backgrounds, and from different parts of Cameroon, with a special duty to serve as an independent assessment body who will assess each nominee and compile their results without any bias. The results of the Independent Judges constitute 50% of each nominee’s results.

Each award category has its own selection criteria

Each award category has its own selection criteria from which the assessment of their impact is subjected to. Each judge, uses the category specific selection criteria and the resume of the impact of each nominee to assess their ability to be called a Cameroon Hero of the year.

Public votes constitute 40% of each nominee’s results

After the publication of the second and final list of shortlisted nominees per category, the general public is then invited to endorse (vote) the candidate they think deserves to win each category. The public votes constitute 40% of each nominee’s results, while GAICAM  reserve 10% votes for each nominee, to complete the 100% needed by each award category. GAICAM then receives, compiles and certifies the results to be made public during the award ceremony.

Information provided in the nomination form are used to screen the nominees

All information provided in the nomination form, is used by the GAICAM to screen the nominees, and ensure that they have traceable records of impact in their communities or the nation at large.

All nominees are screened by GAICAM before they are shortlisted

Meanwhile, after all nominees are screened by the GAICAM, a list of shortlisted candidates per award category is published on the award website, with a maximum of five nominees per category. At this stage, all the nominees are officially informed by a nomination letter; which congratulates them, and asked them to confirm receipt of nomination and their participation in the award within a given date. At this level, those who fail to confirm the receipt and their participation in the award are removed from the second and final list of nominees which is published on the website after the confirmation due date.

Nominees are required to provide a brief write-up about their work

After the publication of the second and final list of nominees, all nominees are again contacted to send a brief write-up about their work, which is harmonized and presented to the award Commission of Independent Judges to review while carrying their background checks on each nominee, so as to enable them cast their votes on who they independently think deserve the award. At this stage, all nominees who fail to submit a brief write up about their work are not considered in their final selection process, since the judges may not have content to base those their review. Such nominees cannot win the award, given that the remarks of the award Commission of independent judges constitutes 50% of the votes.

Cameroon Heroes of Valor and Exceptional Heroes are solely nominated by GAICAM

On the other hand, all those recognized with special awards under the category, Cameroon Heroes of Valor and Exceptional Cameroon Heroes are solely nominated by the GAICAM with no external influence or political motivation. They are not subjected to any vote by member of the general public. Members of the award commission of Independent Judges do not have any influence on who gets selected for this special recognition. As such, some members of the award Commission of Independent Judges with traceable record of impact can still receive this special award, even while serving as an independent judge for the Remarkable Cameroon Heroes awards since they have no role to play in the selection process.
