Meet MTN Cameroon (MTNC), the winner of the 2020 edition of the Cameroon Heroes Awards, in the category of Impact Telecommunication Company of the year. MTNC is a subsidiary of the MTN Group created on 15 February 2000, following the acquisition by MTN International of the first mobile operator in Cameroon, CAMTEL Mobile. In 20 years of activity, MTN Cameroon has imposed itself as the leader of the electronic communications market in Cameroon, and an essential partner of the socio-economic growth of Cameroon.
MTNC plays a major role in the Cameroonian economy and is one of it’s biggest private investors (roughly USD 1.5 billion invested since 2000). The investments realized by MTNC have led to the growth of over a thousand SME partners and vendors of the company. MTNC has greatly contributed to local development through its MTN Foundation. It has since 2006, supplied water to more than 17,000 people in Cameroon. It equally has donated health equipment to health facility to promote good health. Through its Education it has contributed to the success of most students by providing their educational needs.
MTN Cameroon (MTNC) was the winner for the Cameroon Heroes Awards because of the impact of their contribution to local development, support to health and education which has impacted many lives. All nominees had a 40% votes from the general public, 50% votes from the commission of independent judges and 10% vote from the GAICAM board. The judges which constituted 50% of the votes had to carry out their background check and private review in order to independently pass their judgment to whether the candidate deserves the award or not. MTN Cameroon had a 13% vote from our independent commission of judges, a 23.78% vote from the general public and a 2% vote from the GAICAM board. Making a total vote of 38.78% final results with the runner up having 21.32% which made her the winner of the said category.
Congratulations once again MTN Cameroon for your hard work. You have greatly contributed to the growth and development of your community. Your telecommunication company has given a good training program to the youths in the country. This has made your company our Hero of the year.
