Meet Clean Water and Sanitation Africa (CWASAF), a winner of the 2020 edition of the Cameroon Heroes Awards, in the category of Impact Sustainable Community service\Volunteerism Organization. CWASAF is an organization created in 2017, aimed at promoting proper hygiene and sanitation, environmental protection and community development.
CWASAF is located in South West Region of Cameroon with their head office at Check Point, Molyko Buea. Their volunteering activities have being very consistent and getting more youth involved since its creation. CWASAF has been able to carry out more than forty Community projects in seven different communities in Buea such as Ndongo, Molyko, Bonduma and out of Buea. They make use of some of the plastics collected during cleanup Campaigns to produce flower jars on campus. Their most recent Community Engagement was the Clean-up/Sensitization Campaign that was carried out in partnership with the National Volunteering Programme (NVP) Southwest Region; which brought together 67 youths from Mile17 Motto Park, 6 from Bambili, 1from Ebolowa and 7 from Sierra Leone. For the past four years, CWASAF has being volunteering through on-campus Sensitization on hygiene and sanitation.
CWASAF was the winner for the Cameroon Heroes Awards because of the impact of their incredible contributions to community development and youth empowerment. All nominees had a 40% vote from the general public, 50% votes from the commission of independent judges and 10% votes from the GAICAM board. The judges which constituted 50% of the votes had to carry out their background check and private review in order to independently pass their judgment to whether the candidate deserves the award or not. Impact Sustainable Community service\Volunteerism Organisation had a 20% vote from our independent commission of judges, a 13.86% vote from the general public and a 4% vote from the GAICAM board. Making a total vote of 37.86% final results with the runner up having 36.24% which made them the winner of the said category.
