Impact Anti-COVID-19 Promoter of the year 2020

Meet ACHALEKE CHRISTIAN, the winner of the 2020 edition of the Cameroon Heroes Award, in the category of Impact Anti-COVID-19 Promoter of the year. Christian is a youth expert in peace, security and countering violent extremism, with 14 years of experience working as a practitioner, researcher and university lecturer in Cameroon and other conflict affected countries across the world.

Among his several leadership roles across the world, he serves as the National Coordinator of Local Youth Corner Cameroon, a youth-led peace building civil society organization. He has executed over 500 projects and impacts over 1 million young people across the world.  He holds an MSc in Conflict Security and Development from the University of Birmingham. His work as a peace builder is inspired by his childhood of growing in conflict and lived violence on hand. His Experience of violence has shaped his approach in designing, implementing community-based projects and global policy. Achaleke has developed from a community actor to a global expert and consultant with young people, international organisations, governments and UN agencies across the world.

Achaleke Christian was nominated for the Cameroon Heroes award because of the impact of her activities geared towards the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. This was a special award category designed to recognize an individual who has contributed immensely in the fight against COVID-19 in his/her community; and whose activity has helped in preventing the spread of the virus, thus saving lives. All nominees had a 40% votes from the general public, 50% votes from the commission of independent judges and 10% votes from the GAICAM board. The judges which constituted 50% of the vote had to carry out their background checks  and private reviews in order to independently pass their judgment to whether the candidate deserve the award or not. Achaleke had a 50% vote from our independent commission of judges, a 9.69% vote from the general public and a 7% vote from the GAICAM board. Making a total vote of 21% final results with the runner up having 34.91% which made him the winner of the said category.

Congratulations once again Achaleke for your hard work. You have greatly contributed to the growth and development of your community. You have been an inspiration to many youths and Cameroon at large. This has made you our Hero of the year. Your start-ups initiative has created many jobs for youths and has reduced unemployment.
