Meet ABAH Isidore, the winner of the 2020 edition of the Cameroon Heroes Award, in the category of Impact Print Media Personality of the year. He is the Copy Editor of The Post Newspaper and several magazines and online publications in the country. Abah holds a Master Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Buea.
His activities involve: writing and editing news articles, assigning reporters to various beats, chairing editorial meetings. Most of his articles do not only promote growth and development in Cameroon, but push government officials and other stakeholders to have a human face. For example, his report on Kidney Disease Patients Protest against Government Indifference to their Plight on August 24, 2020; made the Government to acquire dialysis machines to assuage the sufferings of the patients on August 30, 2020. His articles are grounded on journalistic canons of accuracy, objectivity, impartiality, fairness and empathy among others, and there is no room for fake news and disinformation.
Isidore was nominated for the Cameroon Heroes award because of the impact of his print media activities which has touched many lives. This award category was to acknowledge an individual who has adhered to the journalism code of ethics in the execution of his/her activities/programs, command some degree of public fascination, influence or shape the Print media (Newspaper) landscape positively, and has impacted the lives of people in the community and contributed to the growth and development of the nation. All nominees had a 40% votes from the general public, 50% votes from the commission of independent judges and 10% votes from the GAICAM board. The judges which constituted 50% of the vote had to carry out their background checks and private reviews in order to independently pass their judgment to whether the candidate deserve the award or not. Abah had a 25% vote from our independent commission of judges, a 18.69% vote from the general public and a 5% vote from the GAICAM board. Making a total vote of 48.69% final results with the runner up having 36.09% which made him the winner of the said category.
Congratulations once again Abah for your hard work. You have greatly contributed to the growth and development of the media and Cameroon at large. You have been an inspiration to many upcoming media professional, something worth acknowledging. This and many has made you Cameroon Hero of the year 2020.
